Although I personally do not recommend it for the most part, some of my clients are very concerned about SEO freelance writing. As a writer, I am required to use specific keywords a certain number of times in an article. For example, if I am writing about Christmas decorations and the customer wants 3% SEO(search engine optimization) content, 3% of the total words used will be ‘Christmas decorations’.
The Customer is Always Right?
To be honest, in this case, I do not believe the customer is always right. The reason is simple. The search engines do not like spam. In fact, they hate it! So, if they think someone is trying to spam the Internet reader, they will blackball the site or send it to the bottom of the search list, so it effectively will not receive any traffic.
When writers use the same keywords so many times in one article that it does not sound like natural writing, it backfires on the client. It really does not help in promoting their product, service, or cause. SEO freelance writing can be useful. But, overuse is an Internet NO-NO. Instead, it is much more effective to use related keywords or ‘keyword cousins’ to underscore a topic. The key is to find the right words to use that the Internet searcher is most likely to select in their quest for a product or service.
Helpful SEO Resources
Oftentimes, my clients give me the keywords that they want me to use. So, I have to write the article accordingly. Sometimes, I will be given the main keywords, and it will be my job to find the keyword cousins. The best tool for SEO freelance writing in this case is: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal. Put in the main keyword, and get a big list of related keywords to complete your article. But, you will want to make sure the keyword cousins are located in the subheadings of the article.
If you have a client that insists on a certain percentage of the main keyword, this is the link to an excellent tool for that very purpose: http://www.global-icon.com/tools/WordSEOSetup.exe It is very easy to use. It becomes an add-in to your word program. So, after you finish an article, simply click on the application and it will tell you the raw and refined keyword density of the article. Refined simply means that it takes out all of the words like “if, and, the, but” before calculating the percentage.
If you need more information about SEO freelance writing, finding the best keywords and keyword cousins, or any other information about becoming a better writer, feel free to contact me. I would be glad to help you learn writing with purpose.
